Effect of Electrode Size, Shape, and Placement During Electrical Stimulation
نویسنده
چکیده
Objective: The effect of electrode size, shape, and placement during electrical stimulation of the biceps, quadriceps, and tibialis anterior muscles were studied to assess what current is required during current-controlled electrical stimulation (ESI) to reach a set muscle force, as well as to evaluate patient comfort. Methods: The electrodes used were round, square, and square with a serrated edge (with similar surface areas of 25.8 cm2); electrode sizes were 3.66 cm2, 4.39 cm2, and 5.08 cm2. Electrodes were placed at distances from the motor point of 2 cm and 4 cm proximal, distal, medial, and lateral, using a 3.66-cm2 pad. Associated subject comfort was recorded on a visual analogue pain scale (VAS) and assessed by heart rate, blood flow, galvanic skin resistance, and skin temperature. Results: Significant increases were found in ESI and VAS scores for placements away from the motor point, but there were no significant differences in ESI and VAS scores among the electrode size and shapes. Specifically, there was a statistically significant increase in ESI

Interaction of Sodium Valproate With Low-Frequency Electrical Stimulation During Kindling
Background: The interaction between antiepileptic drugs and brain electrical stimulation is a potential therapy to control of seizures in patient with pharmacoresistance to drugs. So, the aim of present study was designed to determine the effect of a sub effective dose of sodium valproate combined with low-frequency electrical stimulation during kindling. Material and Methods: One tripolar ele...

We designed a 24-field array and an on-line control box that selects which and how many of 24 fields will conduct electrical charge during functional electrical stimulation. The array was made using a conductive microfiber textile, silver two-component adhesive, and the conductive ink imprint on the polycarbonate. The control box comprised 24 switches that corresponded one-to-one to the fields ...

The paragigantocellularis (PGi) nucleus constitutes a large portion of the ventral pontomedullary reticular formation. Neurons within the PGi have been implicated in a variety of functions including cardiovascular regulation, respiratory control, pain and analgesia. Investigators have demonstrated that electrical stimulation and microinjection of L-glutamate into the PGi produce antinocicepti...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Nugget Geometry and Temperature Distribution in Resistance Spot Welding
Resistance spot welding is an important manufacturing process in the automotive industry for assembling bodies. The quality and strength of the welds and, by extension, the body is mainly defined by the quality of the weld nuggets. The most effective parameters in this process are sheet material, geometry of electrodes, electrode force, current intensity, welding time and sheet thickness. The p...
